Almost 52% of GTA residents now identify themselves as being part of a visible minority

7.7 million Canadians now identify themselves as a visibly minority, representing 22.3% of the total population. Of those visible minorities, 30% were born in Canada.

The visible minority population is made up of a larger proportion of younger age brackets when compared to the not visibly minority population.

1,212,075 new immigrants permanently settled in Canada between 2011 and 2016, accounting for 3.5% of the total population last year.
